Sledding Essentials

By Lisa VanWilliams

We are finally getting blanketed with some snow here in New England as we head into the New Year. The cold air seemed to sweep in and Old Man Winter has arrived and he's making up for time. The kids are anxious to get outside and make snowmen & snowballs. The lawn is almost covered with snow and it's time to bust out the sleds. It's a great way to get outside, burn some calories, and enjoy the snow. A 50 pound child can burn an average of 135 calories in an hour, so it's a great way to get them 60 minutes of physical activity and they wont even notice because they are having so much fun.

There are cheap sleds and there are some that cost a bit more, but you are paying for the quality. One of the top rated sleds we found is made by an American company called Flexible Flyer. The family started making sleds out of their Maine home in 1861, and they are still involved in the business today. For more info about this company, or to order a sled you can view here:

Here are there two most popular sleds (review ratings are 4 star or higher):

Winter Lighting $47.01

Metal Saucer 26" $37.99
